Why NOT to use a Hewlett Packard (HP)
Aarrrrrgh!!
I’m at the end of my strand. I had a nice little deskjet, which I was using, but due to proprietorship demands, recently changed from the HP F2100 to a Lexmark C510 Laser Printer. Now the fun starts.
Did anyone cognizance the sarcasm attached to that last sentence? If not, reread it dripping with Acridity.. yes with a capital S!!
So I’ve been getting this.. Generic Act for Win32 error for the last week or so. On reading through the microsoft spot, I find that some HP printers can cause this. Oh I think, well I’ll lately uninstall it.
If only it was that easy. I’ve uninstalled the HP Printer, still getting the howler message. So what’s next? Well, I then try about 17 diverse solutions offered through a search of google and the microsoft milieu, to no avail. So I decide to restore my computer back a week and a half, to before the whole thing went Kablooey on me.
Done that, now something wants to fix in place, and it can’t find it’s drivers etc. Postulate what it is? You got it.. ole HP software. So I run the uninstall again, nope that doesn’t travail.. Cause there’s an installation already in ripen.. Oh boy!
So after a recent format I get around to downloading my old colleague CCleaner (I highly recommend this smashing free program), do a registry leaf through and check the startup and installed programs through their alluring interface.
So after (25 attempts), I once get the HP software mostly uninstalled. Funnily enough, several items won’t uninstall AT ALL!!
So off to the program files directory I go, and start manually deleting them (accept me, they are going one way or the other), only to find I have about 5 drivers (.dll) files that will NOT off at all, because they are in use!!
Now I don’t even have that printer anymore, HP is uninstalled, so what I privation to know HP.. WHAT IS USING THEM!!! Badly, how can an uninstalled printer still be using drivers?
